What's in a Tenancy Agreement
A residential tenancy agreement should include:
Date of agreement
Names and address of both parties
Address of the property being rented
Term of tenancy (start date and end date)
Address of where the tenant is to pay rent
Amount of rent
Utilities that the tenant is responsible for
Names of permitted occupants and the maximum number of occupants allowed in the suite
The tenancy agreement can be written, oral, or implied. However, it is preferred to have it in writing.
If there is a written tenancy agreement, the landlord must give a fully signed copy to the tenant within 21 days after signing.
A tenancy agreement that has been signed and witnessed by the tenant and landlord becomes a legal document.
